Driving 101

Here we will discuss the basics of racing in an attempt to Improve your lap times.
One of the first and most important is the "APEX", the line you choose going through the turns.
Here are some basic diagrams to give you an idea.

As you will see in the next image sometimes you will need to swing wide in order to achieve the fastest line.

If you have any tips you would like to share please post them here but remember this section is to give advice.

OK for the next tip, The start.
As you will see in the next image the key to a good launch is watching the white bars on the right side of the Tachometer, as you increase your throttle you will see more and more bars begin to show. This will affect your launch, some vehicles have low torque and require more bars or increased RPM when you start, other vehicles have plenty of torque and if the RPM is to high you will get excessive wheel-spin resulting in a poor launch. "DIRT 2 TIP" Keep your tach hovered in the area that causes the yellow lite to flash.

So as a general rule remember these things...Avoid anything that will scrub speed, try to make smooth turns, avoid spinning & sliding when possible.
A good clean race is better than a crash fest.

SOME DIRT2 SPECIFIC TIPS...
Avoid puddles when you can, The Buggies do not always run faster using the Apex method, they tend to slide a lot so keep your buggy on the berm "High and Wide" when you can but always be prepared to counter steer especially on S type turns.
Sliding is fun but as your vehicle is sliding it tends to slow down, try to slide as little as possible.
Think smooth... practice using different lines, you'll know when you hit that sweet spot.

All jumps have a sweetspot..that spot that launches you car level and straight. Find them and use them consistently and your lap times will improve and your crashes will decrease.

The fast drivers are the consistent drivers. Less throttle actually makes you go faster. Don't believe me? Try it.

Sometimes it's better to pick a slower vehicle as they are easier to handle, Also try to avoid puddles when you can, they really bog your vehicle down.
